Samsung is reportedly postponing the launch of its ultra-thin smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, with a new release date now expected on May 13. The device was initially introduced globally in January 2025 alongside the rest of the Galaxy S25 series, raising questions over why its full debut has not yet materialized.
The unexpected delay became evident during the second week of April, when Samsung abruptly halted the launch plans for the S25 Edge. Well-known tech insider Max Jambor, often cited by SamMobile, was among the first to report the potential new launch date. His insights suggest the delay is due to unresolved technical issues, which may have pushed back the initial sales schedule.
What makes the situation even more puzzling is the fact that the Galaxy S25 Edge has already been showcased on major platforms, including Samsung’s latest Unpacked event and at the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Spain. The phone’s presence at such high-profile events had signaled that it was ready for the global market. The subsequent delay, therefore, has sparked widespread speculation within the tech community.
According to Jambor, Samsung is also making changes to the launch format, opting for a virtual event instead of an in-person one. However, he added that there is still no clear information regarding how this delay will impact the phone’s market availability.
Despite the uncertainty, leaks regarding the S25 Edge’s pricing in the European market have already surfaced. The device is still expected to debut first in South Korea and China. But even with the upcoming May launch event, there’s no guarantee that the phone will hit store shelves that same month. Jambor cautioned that the S25 Edge might not become commercially available until June 2025.
Global promotional efforts for the Galaxy S25 Edge have also raised eyebrows. While the device has been heavily marketed worldwide, current indications suggest it may initially launch in only a limited number of countries. This strategy is seen as a sign of Samsung’s caution as it gauges market response before committing to a broader release.
The Galaxy S25 Edge has been one of the most anticipated devices in Samsung’s lineup due to its ultra-thin design and premium features. However, the delay—coupled with the lack of clarity about availability—may dampen enthusiasm among consumers who were expecting a smooth rollout following its high-profile unveiling.
